FAQ
Common Questions
Things people often want to know before beginning the work.
What is Jungian therapy?
Jungian therapy (also called depth psychology or analytical psychology) is a form of psychotherapy rooted in the work of Carl Jung. It works primarily with the unconscious: dreams, free association, active imagination, and the therapeutic relationship itself, all in service of deepening your relationship with yourself.
How deep is deep?
Deep therapy goes beyond the surface of symptoms and behaviors. It explores the deeper patterns that shape your life: the dreams, the moods, the recurring themes, the unconscious motivations. It is not about fixing a single problem; it is about deepening your understanding of yourself.
How long does therapy typically last?
There is no fixed endpoint. Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific; others come for years. The depth of the work is proportional to the depth of the engagement; most people find that the deeper they go, the deeper they want to go.
What will I be asked to do in a session?
Mostly talk: about your life, your dreams, your memories, your feelings. Sometimes you’ll be asked to draw or write about a dream. Sometimes you’ll sit with a feeling or an image and let it unfold. The work is non-directive; the direction comes from you, not from the analyst.
Do I need to have had a dream to have therapy?
Not necessarily. While dreams are a rich source of material, the unconscious speaks through many channels: moods, feelings, bodily sensations, recurring situations, fantasies, and even the relationship between you and the analyst.
Is deep therapy right for me?
Deep therapy tends to attract people who are curious about themselves, who want to understand, not just resolve. If you can tolerate not knowing, if you’re willing to sit with something uncomfortable, if you’re willing to listen to your inner world as seriously as you listen to your outer one, it might be for you.
How do I begin?
The first step is the free consultation: a brief phone call where we talk about you, your life, and what brings you to therapy. No expectations, no pressure. Just a conversation to see if we’re a good fit.
